Gurdit Singh, A Sikh postman at Disney World, Florida has won a battle against its employers and now allowed to work as other workers. Gurdit accused Disney of segregation from staff and visitors because of his religious beliefs.
Gurdit Singh, being a proper practicing Sikh has kept his turban and beard while working. Keeping a turban and beard definitely don’t satisfy “Look Policy” of Disney. So since he joined Disney in 2008, he has been given a working route, which is away from the eyes of visitors and other staff. While in the same time other staff has been rotated on different routes and different assignments, where from time to time they become visible to visitors.
In May, lawyers from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and The Sikh Coalition, an advocacy group for the religion, wrote to Disney expressing their concerns over Gurdit Singh’s treatment.
As keeping a turban and beard is the core of Sikh religion, they mentioned that it is against religion and ethnic right to treat any religious person in this way and a clear violation of American Civil Rights.
After the official complaint, Disney has clarified that they are not discriminating him on basis of religion. Now Gurdit Singh has been allowed to deliver mails on all routes.
