Adding to its achievement, Indian military attacked insurgents cross border camp in Myanmar on 08 June 2015 and killed a number of Naxalites. On June 9, Indian government announced it to the media and declared it as clear sign of Modi government stand on any such insurgency. In any of press release or statement on that day, there was no reference to Pakistan. No Indian government official said anything related to Pakistan. But Pakistan was furious. The extent was that few days later Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has to brief Parliament in Islamabad on his strategy on what will Pakistan do if India takes same action in their territory.
If no statement came from Indian government on June 9 against Pakistan, what made Pakistan furious?
It was Indian Media. As soon as Indian Government came out with the details of the attack, Indian media started collected facts and showing pictures of it on their channels.
Naxalite problem in India’s East has been a major problem in many Indian states and as old as terrorist problem in Punjab and Kashmir. But its very hard for Naxalites to make it to headlines of National news because it has been mostly an internal problem and Indian government policy has always been not to portray it on International level. Moreover Naxalites has never been linked to any foreign funding. Indian Army cross border attack on June 8, was done as a revenge for 04 June attack by Naxalite in Manipur that left 18 army personnel dead. It was the first time that Indian army crossed the international border to crush insurgent movement. But in every aspect, terrorist and naxalite problem has been totally different.
In the past any of such naxalite news never made big news for Indian media sitting in Delhi, but it was a big achievement for Indian Army. So to make it big and to keep it in news, Indian Media houses such as Aaj Tak, NDTV, India TV etc called for a panel discussion on night of June 9 in which they invited guests which ranges from Ex Army Personnel to Ex Security Advisors and so on. As a TRP rules go, if you want more audience, make news. So along with discussing the operation, they took up the question- should Indian army attack cross border terrorist camps in Kashmir?
India has long accused Pakistan for supporting terrorist camps in their territory specially in Pakistan Controlled Kashmir. With news channel raising Cross Border attack into Pakistani territory seen by Pakistan as will of the Government of India, whereas there was no official statement.
USA cross border operation to kill Osama Bin Laden in 2011 in which Pakistan official were not taken into confidence is already seen in Pakistan as government weakness and any such attack in Pakistan by old rival India will surely shook democratic government and raise another chance of military coup. Pervez Musharraf who is Ex Army General who headed last coup in Pakistan and became President himself seen media reports in India as aggression and he went on ARY News in Pakistan with hate statements against India. This topic raised a lot of concern in Pakistani public and the PM Sharif has to come in Parliament with answers. Then as counter, Indian government officials came up with more comments and diplomatic gap between two countries widened.
